50 years of maritime life on the Weser
The history of Mehlbergen Marina begins in the year 1975. Where boats now lie at the jetties and Motorhome guests looking out onto the harbour basin, there was a former gravel pit there at the time.
A breakthrough created the connection to the Weser and thus the basis for a small marina. Initially, the facilities were still simple and provisional. However, just a few years later, the marina was further developed piece by piece.
In the 1980s, new sanitary facilities and additional amenities for boat owners were created. Between 1986 and 1990, the old wooden jetties were gradually replaced by around 320-metre-long reinforced timber jetties replaced. This not only increased the number of berths, but also the comfort for guests and seasonal berth holders.
Today the marina has around 130 berths for different boat sizes. Electricity connections at the berths, fresh water, sanitary facilities and other amenities are now standard features. Motorhome guests have also long since discovered the marina as a regular destination on the Middle Weser.
The location near the entrance to the Sebbenhausen lock canal at Weser km 274.6 makes the marina an easily accessible starting point for trips on the Middle Weser to this day.
The „Roter Sand“ lighthouse“
A special landmark of the marina is the replica of the lighthouse „Red Sand“.
The small lighthouse was built on 20th September 2014 solemnly inaugurated and commemorates the maritime tradition of the marina. Today it is firmly established as part of the harbour's image and is a popular photo opportunity for guests and visitors.
From a small marina to a versatile meeting place
Over the years, the original marina has evolved into a place where diverse people come together.
Pleasure boaters find their permanent berth here or stop over as visiting sailors. Motorhome guests spend a few days by the harbour basin. Cyclists make use of the proximity to the Weser Cycle Path, and visitors from Mehlbergen and the surrounding area drop by the Treibgut Store.
Despite many changes, one thing has remained: Marina Mehlbergen is still to this day family-run. Personal contact, short lines of communication and proximity to our guests are just as much a part of the marina for us as boats, pontoons and water.
50 years of Mehlbergen Marina
In the year 2025 Marina Mehlbergen celebrated her 50th anniversary.
Half a century in which a former gravel pit has gradually become a marina and meeting place on the Middle Weser.
And even after 50 years, we are continuing to develop the marina – without forgetting how it all began.
